The Centre as a Whole

Derwenthaugh Boat Station of the Sea Cadets, to give it its Sunday name, has grown into a Centre of Excellence since it was first opened in 1986. The Centre houses three buildings, one for training and boat storage, one for accommodation, and a workshop for carrying out boat maintenance. The facility provides stimulating training, adventure, and fun for all Cadets.

 

The Centre has a large floating pontoon, an extension of which was added in 2015 to accommodate its growing fleet and growing usage. As the river is tidal with access by other routes impossible at low tide, the pontoons make it easy for local Units to 'parade' at the Boat Station during the summer evenings, compounding the knowledge they have gained during the many courses the Boat Station offers throughout the year.

 

The Centre is used for District and Area Training and also offers the facilities to Sea Cadets outside the local area, as well as to organisations outside of the Sea Cadets.

 

During the winter months, the Centre can be also used for onshore training courses. 

 

Training Building

 

The Training Building is the building that houses the boats, classrooms, and facility for teaching boat work. The building has been upgraded to be inline with today's needs and fully complements the Accommodation Building. Accommodation Building

 

The Accommodation Building was completed in October 2013 and has proven to be enormously popular with those who have used its facilities. The building accommodates up to 20 Cadets and 8 Staff, with a further suite that can be used by disabled users or as an extra room for adult staff. Please note: The Centre does not lend or hire out boats to the General Public.
